Notebook: TaxSlayer Bowl Priority Seating Deadline is Thursday

THE FLATS – Ticket sales have been brisk since Sunday’s announcement that Georgia Tech football will face Kentucky in the 72nd-annual TaxSlayer Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 31 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Fans that purchase tickets from the Georgia Tech athletics ticket office through the end of the day on Thursday, Dec. 8 will receive priority for seating in the sections reserved for Georgia Tech fans at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field. Priority seating will be allocated in the following order: A-T Fund Donors (based on Priority Points), followed by 2016 season-ticket holders, then by order date.

Tickets cost $85 for lower-level seats and $125 for club-level seats.

Additionally, a limited number of tickets in the official lower-level Georgia Tech student section are available to current Tech students on a first-come, first-served basis for just $40, a savings of $45 per ticket (limit two per student).

AFCA RECOGNIZES GEORGIA TECH FOR GRADUATION SUCCESS: The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) recognized Georgia Tech this week for being among the NCAA Division I FBS institutions with a football Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 75 percent or better.

In the latest data released by the NCAA in November, Georgia Tech football had a GSR of 78 percent, four points higher than the national average. Tech is one of 10 ACC programs and 75 FBS programs to earn the recognition from the AFCA.

Georgia Tech will officially receive the recognition on Jan. 9 at the 2017 AFCA Convention in Nashville.

JACKETS’ 44 BOWL APPEARANCES ARE 13TH IN NCAA HISTORY, SECOND AMONG ACC MEMBERS: The 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl will be the 44th bowl game in Georgia Tech history, which is tied for the 12th-most bowl appearances in major college football history and rank second among all current members of the ACC.

Alabama will make its NCAA-record 65th all-time bowl appearance when it meets Washington in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on Dec. 31. The only other schools that have played in more bowl games* than the Yellow Jackets are Nebraska (53), Texas (53), Georgia (52), Tennessee (52), USC (51), Oklahoma (50), LSU (48), Ohio State (47), Penn State (47), Florida State (46) and Michigan (45).

Among ACC programs, Georgia Tech’s 44 bowl appearances rank behind only Florida State, which will participate in its 46th bowl game later this month when it faces Michigan in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.
