THE FLATS – Georgia Tech has accepted a bid to play Ole Miss in the 2013 Franklin American Mortgage Music Bowl in Nashville, Tenn., the 17th consecutive season the Yellow Jackets will play in a bowl game.

The Yellow Jackets (7-5 overall, 5-3 ACC) and Rebels (7-5 overall, 3-5 SEC) will meet at LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans, Dec. 30th at 3:15 p.m. (Eastern)/2:15 p.m. (Central). ESPN will televise the 16th annual Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.

Tech will make its 42nd all-time postseason bowl appearance, its first in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.

“We are very pleased to be heading to the city of Nashville to play in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl,” head coach Paul Johnson said. “To play a bowl game within driving distance for our fans, and to play against a high-quality opponent in Ole Miss, is a great opportunity.

“Ole Miss is a very talented football team and they are well-coached, so we certainly have our work cut out for us. It should be an entertaining football game.”

Georgia Tech and Ole Miss will meet on the gridiron for the first time since 1971, a 41-18 Rebels victory in the Peach Bowl. The Yellow Jackets won the first two meetings, including a win over Mississippi on Jan. 1, 1953 in the Sugar Bowl, capping a perfect 12-0 national championship season.

The Yellow Jackets will play in Nashville for the first time since 2009 and they will play at LP Field for the first time. The 68,000-seat facility was erected in 1999.

Tech began the season 3-0, including wins at ACC Coastal Division champion Duke and a home win over North Carolina. The Jackets also put together a three-game win streak that began in mid-October with a 56-0 thrashing of Syracuse, a win at Virginia and a home victory over Pittsburgh.

Like Georgia Tech, all five of Ole Miss’ defeats came against bowl-bound teams. The Rebels’ seven wins included victories over Vanderbilt, Texas, LSU and Arkansas.

Georgia Tech’s streak of 17 consecutive bowl appearances ties for the second-longest active streak nationally behind only Virginia Tech (21).
