Georgia Tech's Attaochu Named First Team All-ACC

Dec. 11, 2013

THE FLATS — Georgia Tech senior defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu was named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference, junior guard Shaquille Mason earned third-team honors and senior running back David Sims honorable mention, as selected by the league’s 14 head coaches.

The Coaches All-ACC Team began in 2012. The league’s head coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team.

Attaochu enjoyed one of the best Novembers of any defensive player in college football. He has 10.0 sacks over the last five games, including a career-high 4.0 sacks against Georgia in the regular season finale – the third-most single-game sacks in Yellow Jacket history. His 12.0 sacks this season are the sixth-most in Tech history, and he enters the postseason tied with Greg Gathers (31.0 career sacks) for the most career sacks in school history.

Mason, who has started 25 consecutive games, was named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week two times during the regular season. The Columbia (Tenn.) native helped the Georgia Tech offense rank sixth nationally in rushing offense, seventh in third-down percentage, 15th in fewest sacks allowed and 16th in red-zone offense.

Sims, who has more than 2,200 career rushing yards, leads Georgia Tech in rushing (846 yards this season), rushing touchdowns (11), overall touchdowns (12) and he has averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Sims, who has rushed for 100-plus yards in three of his last five games, has just one negative yardage rushing attempt among his 151 carries this season.
