The Georgia Tech ISP Sports Network
This fall marks the second year of the Georgia Tech ISP Sports Network. International Sports Properties (ISP Sports) of Winston-Salem, NC, agreed to a multi-year package to coordinate the radio broadcasts of football and basketball as well as the coaches' television shows. This agreement also includes the marketing of Georgia Tech athletics through corporate sponsorship, internet and other avenues. Ben Sutton is the president of ISP Sports, while Jeff Salisbury is the general manager of the property in Atlanta. Jon McLamb, Nicole Petree, and Michael Smith round out the Georgia Tech ISP Sports management staff. Each Yellow Jacket game this fall will be heard live in the Atlanta area on NewsRadio WGST-AM/FM (640/105.7). ISP Sports and WGST agreed to a three-year contract that gives Tech fans a 50,000-watt daytime AM signal and 50,000-watts of FM power for each football and basketball contest.Owned and operated by Clear Channel, WGST was at one time owned by Georgia Tech, as the call letters actually stand for Georgia School of Technology, the Institute's original name. WGST, with the facilities of the Georgia News Network, will help provide a wide coverage map for Tech football broadcasts this fall.
The broadcast tandem of play-by-play announcer Wes Durham and color analyst Kim King return to the air this fall.
The 2000 season marks King's 27th year on the network. A former star quarterback at Georgia Tech under the legendary Bobby Dodd, King's insightful comments have been heard on the broadcasts since he joined the network in 1974 alongside legendary announcer Al Ciraldo. A 1996 inductee into the State of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, King is a very successful business developer in Atlanta. In 1998, King received the Athletic Association's highest alumni honor with the Total Person Award. He along with former Tech great George Morris, serves as Co-Chairmen of the annual Bobby Dodd Memorial Golf Classic each June.
The 34-year old Wes Durham is in his sixth season as the "Voice of the Yellow Jackets". Durham arrived in Atlanta to handle football, basketball and baseball play-by-play after spending three seasons at Vanderbilt. He also has worked at Marshall and Radford in his career. A 1988 graduate of Elon College, Durham is the son of North Carolina announcer Woody Durham, who is in his 29th season with the Tar Heels. The younger Durham is also the host of the weekly call-in and television shows featuring head coach George O'Leary.
THE PLAY-BY-PLAY OF YELLOW JACKET FOOTBALL - Wes Durham has been a hit with Tech fans since his arrival in the summer of 1995 with his entertaining and informative style. Color analyst Kim King, who still ranks among the school's top ten in several career offensive categories, has become a fixture in the broadcasts since he debuted with the late Al Ciraldo in 1974.
YELLOW JACKET COUNTDOWN WITH DAVE BRAINE - Athletic Director Dave Braine, along with host Wes Durham, begin each football broadcast two hours prior to kick off with the up-to-the-minute word on Georgia Tech athletic events and individual athlete accomplishments. Fans from around the state can call in to the show with questions about the team and for inside coaching advice.
THE RAMBLIN' WRECK KICKOFF SHOW - Each Tech football broadcast will begin one-hour prior to kickoff with interviews, features and scores from around the country. Fans will also get the latest word from head coach George O'Leary about today's game and the early word on the contest from Kim King and Wes Durham. Also, there will be looks back at Tech's proud tradition, both on the field and in the classroom.
