Tech Tied for 2nd at Puerto Rico Classic

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico - Bo Andrews fired a bogey-free 68, and Seth Reeves added a 69 Sunday, lifting third-ranked Georgia Tech into a tie for second place following the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic.

The Yellow Jackets shot a 10-under-par team total of 278 and are tied with No. 7 Georgia, five strokes behind top-ranked Alabama (15-under 273). Big Ten members Purdue (-7) and Michigan (-3) are fourth and fifth, followed by Clemson (-1) among the 15 teams competing.

The 54-hole event is being contested through Tuesday on the 6,902-yard, par-72 River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club.

"Great to get off to a good start this time," said head coach Bruce Heppler. "We got some very good play today from Bo and Seth, which was good so see, and solid rounds from Ollie and Anders."

Andrews, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., birdied the par-4 6th hole and the par-3 8th, as well as both par-5s on the back side in posting his ninth round at par of under this year. He is in a tie for fifth place, two strokes behind Purdue's Adam Schenk, who posted a 6-under 66. Reeves, a senior from Duluth, Ga., also birdied four holes, but recorded a bogey at the par-4 16th and is in a three-way tie for seventh.

Ollie Schniederjans added a 2-under-par 70 for the Yellow Jackets, and Anders Albertson added a 1-under 71. All four Tech counters are in the top 20 individually.

Plays resumes with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Eastern time Monday.
