Las Vegas, Nev. - A challenging golf course and high winds proved to be a lethal combination for Georgia Tech Friday, and the 3rd-ranked Yellow Jackets posted their highest team round of the year and stand in 13th place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.

Ollie Schniederjans shot a 76 (+4) and Richard Werenski a 77 to pace the Jackets at the 7,510-yard, par 72 Southern Highlands Golf Club. Seth Reeves added a 78, and Anders Albertson and Bo Andrews each shot 84, one of which counted toward the Tech team score of 315 (+27).

None of the Tech players avoided a disastrous hole during their rounds, played in mild temperatures but steady 20 mile-per-hour wind that gusted to 30 miles per hour.

Host UNLV, ranked 37th in the nation, managed the conditions the best, posting a 1-over-par 289 to take a four-shot lead over No. 2 Oklahoma State (293, +5). No. 14 Oklahoma (+8) is third, followed by No. 10 Stanford (+9). Top-ranked Alabama and No. 19 UCLA are tied for fifth at +11.

The 15-team field includes the nation's top five teams and 11 of the nation's top 25. The second round begins at 11 a.m. Eastern time Saturday, with the final round set for 11 a.m. ET Sunday.
