Ollie Schniederjans and Anders Albertson each fired even-par 71s Sunday and earned top-10 finishes, while 15th-ranked Georgia Tech rallied late and earned a tie for second place the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club outside Nashville, Tenn.

TECH LINEUP — The Yellow Jackets birdied 10 holes over their final six to pull even with Alabama at the end of the day.

All-Americans Schniederjans (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Albertson (Woodstock, Ga.) each closed fast Sunday. Schniederjans stood at 3-over-par for his round after a double-bogey at the par-5 14th, but birdied three of his last four holes for his 71 and tie for sixth place individually at even-par 213. Albertson played his last five holes in 2-under-par and tied for eighth place at 214 (+1).

Sophomore Vincent Whaley (McKinney, Texas) shot 2-over 73 Sunday and finished along in 11th place at 2-over-par 215. Sophomore Michael Hines (Acworth, Ga.) went 2-under-par over his final six holes to post a 72 and tie for 21st place at 8-over 221. Freshman Chris Petefish (Danville, Calif.) did not count for Tech Sunday after carding a 78, yet still tied for 27th place at 9-over 222.

TEAM LEADERBOARD — Tech and No. 27 Alabama began the day in a tie for second and stayed that way after each team posted a 3-over-par score of 287 on Sunday. The Jackets and Crimson Tide finished 54 holes at 5-over-par 857, 11 strokes behind host Vanderbilt. The sixth-ranked Commodores were the only team to play Sunday’s final round under par (279, -5) and complete 54 holes in red figures (846, -6).

No. 21 Kennesaw State (868, +16) was a distant fourth, followed by East Tennessee State (869, +17) in fifth.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD — Vanderbilt teammates Matthis Schwab (67 Sunday) and Hunter Stewart (69) tied for medalist honors at 6-under-par 207, two shots ahead of third-place Adrian Meronk of East Tennessee State (4-under 209), who closed with a 70. Louisville’s Robin Sciiot-Siegrist, the 36-hole leader, shot 73 Sunday and finished in a tie for fourth with Alabama’s Tom Lovelady (67 Sunday) at 3-under 210.

Schniederjans tied with the Crimson Tide’s Dru Love at even-par 213 in sixth place, while Albertson tied for eighth at 214 (+1) with Liberty’s Isaiah Logue and Alabama’s Robby Shelton.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION — The Mason Rudolph Men’s Championship is a 54-hole collegiate event, with the low four scores out of five counting each round, played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course (7,100 yards, par 71) in Franklin, Tenn. The 14-team field featured eight teams in the current Golfweek/Sagarin top-50, including No. 6 and host Vanderbilt, No. 16 Georgia Tech, No. 21 Kennesaw State No. 28 Alabama, No. 32 SMU, No. 40 Georgia Southern, No. 44 East Tennessee State and No. 47 Louisville. Ball State, College of Charleston, Indiana, Liberty, Mercer and Notre Dame rounded out the field.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY — Georgia Tech is playing in the Mason Rudolph Championship for the second time, having finished fourth among 17 teams in the 2009 event, which was held in the fall. Tech’s lineup for that event includes current PGA Tour pro Chesson Hadley, John-Tyler Griffin, Paul Haley, Kyle Scott and James White.

TEAM UPDATE — Georgia Tech is ranked No. 15 in this week’s Golfstat ranking and No. 11 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. The Yellow Jackets finished 10th at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in their last outing two weeks ago after finishing second at the Puerto Rico Classic and fourth in the Seminole Collegiate. Anders Alberton paced the Yellow Jackets by tying for 11th place individually. All three spring tournaments have featured at least eight teams which were ranked among the top 50 in the nation, against whom the Jackets have a 42-25-1 record this year. Tech’s schedule is ranked the 11th-most difficult in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Index.
