Albertson a Finalist for Byron Nelson Award

March 11, 2015

Norman, Okla. – Georgia Tech’s Anders Albertson has been named one of five finalists for the 2015 Byron Nelson Award presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon, in cooperation with the Four Seasons Resort and Club Las Colinas and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas.

Candidates for the Nelson Award must be a graduating senior and the selection committee considers equally a nominee’s entire collegiate academic and golf career as well as his character and integrity while in college. Particular consideration will be given to a nominee’s good citizenship, as portrayed by Mr. Byron Nelson over the course of his life and golf career.

After graduating early from Etowah High School in Woodstock, Ga., and enrolling at Tech in January of 2011, Albertson has been on the travel roster for every tournament in which Tech has competed during the course of his four-year career. He won the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, and has nine other top-10 finishes and seven other top-20 showings in 50 career events.

His career scoring average of 71.55 is third-best in Tech history behind Bryce Molder (70.69) and current Yellow Jacket teammate Ollie Schniederjans (70.77). Albertson has earned All-ACC honors all three years at Tech so far, was a third-team All-American as a sophomore and an honorable mention choice as a freshman. He received the Bobby Dodd Scholarship as Tech’s top student-athlete in 2013-14, was named an All-America Scholar last year by the Golf Coaches Association of America and has made the ACC All-Academic golf team three times.

Albertson joins Colorado State’s Cameron Harrell, Bobby Holden of Redlands, Oglethorpe’s Anthony Maccaglia and Missouri’s Ryan Zech as contenders for the 2015 honor, which has been awarded to three Georgia Tech players in the past – Troy Matteson in 2003, Roberto Castro in 2007 and James White in 2012.

The recipient of the Nelson Award will be named March 25.
