Anders Albertson (left) jumped to 49th in Web.com Tour earnings.
March 28, 2017

THE FLATS - Georgia Tech will field a nearly full roster of alumni in this weekend’s Shell Houston Open in Humble, Texas, the final event of the PGA Tour schedule before the season’s first major, the Masters Tournament next week in Augusta, Ga.

Matt Kuchar and Roberto Castro are in the Masters field, along with 1987 champion Larry Mize, and are competing in Houston this weekend along with Stewart Cink, Bryce Molder, Ollie Schniederjans and Cameron Tringale. Richy Werenski was the first alternate as of Tuesday morning.

Kuchar went 1-1-1 in last weekend’s WGC Dell Technologies Match Play Championship in Austin, Texas. He halved his first-round match against Brendan Steele, lost to Zach Johnson in the second round, then defeated Tommy Fleetwood in the third round, and did not advance to the knockout round.

Meanwhile, Molder and Tringale played the weekend at the Puerto Rico Open, tying for 37th and 44th, respectively, while Werenski and former Puerto Rico champion Chesson Hadley made the cut but did not finish.

Web.com Tour: Anders Albertson earned his first top-10 finish on the Web.com Tour this year, tying for ninth along with Nicholas Thompson at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, the tour’s first event in over a month. It was Albertson’s second top-10 finish in 28 career events. Thompson remains in the top 10 (8th) in Web.com Tour earnings in an effort to regain his PGA Tour card, while Albertson made a significant jump to 49th with his performance. The tour takes another three weeks off before resuming in Indiana the weekend of April 20-23.

In the third round of the 2017 Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by NACHER, Anders Albertson sticks his 120-yard approach shot on the par-5 12th hole to inside a foot then taps in his putt for birdie.
