Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

May 10, 2016

THE FLATS - Roberto Castro took the lead late in Sunday’s final round at the Wells Fargo Championship with back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15, but couldn’t hold it and wound up losing a playoff to James Hahn in a bid for his first victory in 116 PGA Tour starts.

Castro followed those consecutive birdies with bogeys at 16 and 17, then forced the playoff with a par from the right rough at the last while Hahn bogeyed. In the playoff, Castro drove his tee shot into the creek running to the left of the fairway, and Hahn won the hole with a par for the title. The 2007 Tech graduate got himself into contention with a 66 on Friday, then shot 71-71 on the weekend for a 72-hole total of 279 (-9). He jumped from 97th to 33rd in FedEx Cup points in the process.

Following his final-round 71 at the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship, Roberto Castro talks about building off the momentum of his good play as of late and gearing up for a win.

In the final round of the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship, James Hahn defeats Roberto Castro in the first playoff hole to claim his second PGA TOUR title.

Meanwhile, Chesson Hadley has put together good performances back-to-back, tying for 11th place after tyhing for 20th the week before at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The 2010 ACC champion shot 67 on Friday and might’ve contended for the title himself if not for a 76 on Saturday, and finished at 284 (-4). He has broken par in six of seven rounds the last two weeks, and moved up to No. 141 in FedEx Cup points.

Cameron Tringale also picked up a check at Wells Fargo, tying for 41st place, while Ollie Schniederjans missed the cut with his final sponsor exemption opportunity.

Following a second-round 67, Chesson Hadley reflects on his play in the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship with Doug Bell from PGA TOUR Radio

Despite the near-win last weekend, Castro is not in the field for The Players this week in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Hadley and Tringale will be competing at TPC Sawgrass along with Matt Kuchar and Bryce Molder, who took last weekend off.

Stewart Cink announced last week that he would be taking time off from competition after learning his wife, Lisa, has breast cancer.

The Web.com Tour is off again this week, but moves to Raleigh, N.C., next week for the Rex Hospital Open, where Schniederjans returns to action along with Anders Albertson and Richard Werenski, all of whom rank among the tour’s top 20 in earnings. Troy Matteson will be in the field along with John-Tyler Griffin, a North Carolina native playing on a sponsor exemption.

Seth Reeves, who will begin his rookie season on the MacKenzie Tour (PGA Tour Canada) later this month, continued to play well on his SwingThought.com Tour events, tying for seventh place at last weekend’s Willow Creek event in High Point, N.C. It was his seventh top-10 finish in a SwingThought event this year, and moved him up to third place on the tour’s earnings list.
