@GT_Golf - #ProJackets Update

June 9, 2015

THE FLATS – Texas natives Troy Matteson and Matt Weibring posted their best finishes of the 2015 Web.com Tour season in the Greater Dallas Open last weekend. Matteson tied for fifth place with a 19-under-par total of 269, while Weibring tied for eighth at 18-under-par 270. It was the first top-10 finish of the year for each player.

Richard Werenski missed the cut, but all three players rank in the 80s in earnings on the tour. Paul Haley made his third start of the year, in his hometown, and missed the cut.

Matt Kuchar, Stewart Cink and Chesson Hadley all had solid weekends at The Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. Kuchar tied for 26th, Cink tied for 31st and Hadley tied for 49th. Cink’s performance moved him into the top 125 (119th) in FedEx Cup points for the year. Cameron Tringale missed the cut but stands at No. 40 in the standings.

Roberto Castro and Tringale get their final tune-up for the U.S. Open this weekend in the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn. Cink, Hadley, Matteson, David Duval, Bryce Molder and Nicholas Thompson also are in the field, while Kuchar takes a break before the U.S. Open next week.

Bo Andrews earned his biggest paycheck of the season on the eGolf Gateway Tour with a seventh place finish and a 10-under-par score of 274 at the Biggs Cadillac Buick GMC Open in Herford, N.C.

Shun Yat Hak, a freshman at Tech in 2012-13 who helped the Jackets reach the semifinals of the NCAA Championship, missed the cut in the PGA Tour Canada opener, the PC Financial Open in Vancouver.

U.S. Open update: Four Georgia Tech alumni are in the field for the 115th U.S. Open, June 18-21 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. All-American and 2007 graduate Roberto Castro became the fourth Monday when he earned one of three qualifying spots available at the sectional tournament in Ball Grounds, Ga. Two-time ACC Player of the Year Ollie Schniederjans is exempt into the field as the 2014 winner of the Mark H McCormack medal as the world’s top amateur player. Matt Kuchar and Tringale are exempt for having qualified for the 2014 Tour Championship and being listed among the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of May 25.

Missed qualifying for US Open yesterday. It stings, especially after playing in 19 straight. The things we can take for granted…
