@GT_Golf - #ProJackets Update

June 16, 2015

THE FLATS – Roberto Castro and Stewart Cink played solidly over the weekend and earned top-40 finishes at the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn.

Cink was steady all weekend with rounds of 68-70-69-71 (-2) to tie for 37th place, while Castro finished strong with a 66 to finish at 1-under 279 in preparing for this week’s U.S. Open. Six other Yellow Jacket alumni missed the cut.

Richard Werenski and Kyle Scott took home checks from the Web.com Tour’s Rust-Oleum Championship in Ohio. Werenski played steadily with rounds of 71-69-71-69 to finish 4-under-par and tie for 50th, while Scott earned his first paycheck on the tour after posting a 2-under-par 282 score and tying for 61st.

James White, who missed out on qualifying for the U.S. Open last Monday, bounced back from that disappointment to tie for eighth place on the SwingThought.com Tour Cutter Creek Classic with an 11-under 277 total. Bo Andrews took advantage of a week off on the eGolf tour to tie for 16th in the same event (5-under 283).

Former Tech players have accumulated more than $5.4 million in PGA Tour earnings this season, and six Yellow Jackets are currently among the top 125 in FedEx Cup points, which gets them into the first event in the playoffs. Matt Kuchar leads the group at No. 31, followed by Cameron Tringale (41), Chesson Hadley (62), Bryce Molder (96), Nicholas Thompson (115) and Cink (119).

U.S. Open update: Four Georgia Tech alumni are in the field for the 115th U.S. Open this week at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. Castro became the fourth Yellow Jacket in the field last week after earning one of three qualifying spots available at the sectional tournament in Ball Ground, Ga. Two-time ACC Player of the Year Ollie Schniederjans is exempt into the field as the 2014 winner of the Mark H McCormack medal as the world’s top amateur player. Kuchar and Tringale are exempt for having qualified for the 2014 Tour Championship and being listed among the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of May 25.
