It is the 11th time in Tech golf history that two or more of its players have been named All-America Scholars. Four Tech players earned the distinction in 2014, and three Yellow Jackets were honored in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

Hines and Whaley are both rising seniors in the Yellow Jackets’ golf program with multiple appearances on the ACC’s All-Academic golf team and Honor Roll. Whaley, from McKinney, Texas, won the Clemson Invitational and posted three other top-10 finishes while recording the team’s best stroke average (72.16). Hines, from Acworth, Ga., played in nine events for Tech last year, tying for 27th place at the Clemson Invitational for his best finish.

The Yellow Jackets finished the spring with a tie for seventh place in the NCAA Tucson Regional, and were No. 38 in the final Golfweek/Sagarin ratings and No. 42 in the final Golfstat rankings.

A total of 212 players in Division I, 91 in Division II and 12 in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 41 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
