Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

July 26, 2016

THE FLATS – Continuing to demonstrate the kind of consistency that keeps him among the top players in the Official World Golf Ranking and in contention for spots in the Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup, Matt Kuchar shot three rounds in the 60s and tied for ninth place at last weekend’s RBC Canadian Open.

It was the ninth top-10 finish of the year for the 2000 Tech graduate, seven of them in his last 10 events. He has pushed past $3 million in earnings for 2015-16 and pushed himself up to 14th in the FedEx Cup points race. Kuchar has not finished lower than 19th in the final points standings in the last eight years.

Most importantly, the member of the USA team for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro moved back into the top eight in points to automatically make the USA team for the Ryder Cup. Should he make the team in 2016, it would be his fourth consecutive Ryder Cup, one behind Stewart Cink’s five appearances.

He has missed only one cut in 20 events this year, ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in scoring average (69.674), seventh in total strokes gained, 12th in stroke gained tee-to-green, 22nd in strokes gained putting, 24th in sand save percentage, 29th in driving accuracy and 34th in greens in regulation percentage.

Following a third-round 70, Matt Kuchar reflects on his play in the 2016 RBC Canadian Open with Kevin Sylvester from PGA TOUR Radio.

Kuchar was one of four former Yellow Jackets to make the cut at the RBC Canadian Open, with Cameron Tringale tying for 14th, Chesson Hadley tying for 43rd and Roberto Castro tying for 65th.

Tringale, with his second straight top-25 finish and sixth of the year, made the biggest jump in FedEx Cup points to 89th, putting him in position not only to make the FedEx Cup playoffs but advance to the second stage with four regular-season events remaining. Castro sits 49th in FedEx Cup points, and Bryce Molder, who missed the cut at the RBC Canadian, is 70th, both in position to reach the third stage if they continue to play well.

Following a third-round 69, Cameron Tringale reflects on his play in the 2016 RBC Canadian Open with Fred Albers from PGA TOUR Radio.

Following an opening-round 67, Chesson Hadley reflects on his play in the 2016 RBC Canadian Open with Mark Zecchino from PGA TOUR Radio.

Castro, Kuchar, Molder and Tringale are in the field for the final 2016 major championship, the PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J. It is the first major of the year for Castro, Molder and Tringale. Kuchar tied for 24th at the Masters, 46th at the U.S. Open and Open Championship.

Web.com Tour: Ollie Schniederjans continued steaming ahead in his quest to win the Web.com Tour money title, tying for sixth place at last weekend’s Utah Championship, moving ahead of his former Tech teammate Richy Werenski into second place. Schniederjans has five top-10 finishes this year, including a victory at the Air Capital Classic, and is $56,000 behind first-place Wesley Bryan in winnings.

Werenski has struggled since winning the BMW Charity Pro-Am back in May, missing five cuts in seven events, but the 2014 Tech graduate remains third in earnings and virtually guaranteed to finish among the top 25 and earn his PGA Tour card for next season.

Anders Albertson, who tied for 62nd in Utah, is 48th in earnings, approximately $36,000 out of the top 25 with eight events to be played before the Web.com Tour Championship.
