#ProJackets Golf Update

Sept. 15, 2015

THE FLATS – Three Georgia Tech alumni – Matt Kuchar, Cameron Tringale and Bryce Molder – are in the field for this week’s BMW Championship, the third stage of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, in Lake Forest, Ill.

Kuchar, bidding to advance all the way to the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta for the sixth straight year, made a significant move in securing that spot by tying for ninth place at 7-under-par 277 in the Deutsche Bank Championship, including a third-round 65. The 2000 Tech graduate had reached 10-under-par and tied for third place during his final round Monday before settling back, but he enters the third stage ranked 20th in FedEx Cup points. The top 30 after the BMW will advance to the finale at East Lake Golf Club.

Tringale played the 72 holes even-par to tie for 44th place, and stands 55th in points headed to the BMW, while Molder managed to remain inside the top 70 (69th) despite missing the cut at the Deutsche Bank. Chesson Hadley’s 2014-15 season came to an end after he closed with an 80 Monday.

Web.com TourRoberto Castro began his quest to regain PGA Tour status by tying for 44th place at the Hotel Fitness Championship last weekend in Fort Wayne, Ind. Castro shot 4-under-par 284 and stands 36th in earnings after the first of four events. Nicholas Thompson, who finished the PGA Tour season outside the top 125, also is in the Web.com Tour finals and missed the cut last weekend. He is 63rd in the Finals rankings. The top 75 money earners from this year’s Web.com Tour join with the No. 126-200 earners from the PGA Tour for four events, after which the top 50 in earnings from the four events will gain PGA Tour status. The top 25 in regular-season earnings have already qualified for their 2015-16 cards.

Meanwhile, another group of Yellow Jackets have advanced to the first stage of the Web.com Tour Q-School. Drew Czuchry (T3) and Bo Andrews (8th) advanced out of the pre-qualifying event St. Augustine, Fla. Czuchry shot 10-under-par 206, while Andrews posted a 7-under-par total of 209, each grabbing one of 38 spots available to move on to the first stage of Web.com Q-School. Anders Albertson, who played in SwingThought.com Tour events since June, tied for fourth place (8-under 202) in Brunswick, Ga.

Several other Tech alumni will be in first-stage qualifying events which take place Oct. 6-9 at four different sites, including John-Tyler Griffin, Seth Reeves, Kyle Scott and James White, who have played this summer mostly in eGolf and SwingThought.com events. Troy Matteson, Matt Weibring and Richard Werenski, who had full Web.com Tour status this year but did not qualify for the finals, will begin Q-School either in the first or second stage.

MacKenzie Tour – With some time between the end of the Web.com Tour regular season and the beginning of Q-School, Richard Werenski went North of the border to play in the Cape Breton Celtic Classic and tied for 17th with a 13-under-par score of 275.

Odds and ends – Stewart Cink, whose PGA Tour season came to an end with The Barclays, is in the field on an invitation for this weekend’s 72° Open D’Italia on the European Tour … Seth Reeves won the club championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club last weekend (2-under 214), one year after his Tech teammate Bo Andrews won the title … Drew Czuchry finished fourth in this year’s club championship.
