Perthshire, Scotland – Matt Kuchar has become a fixture for the United States in international golf. Friday, the former Georgia Tech All-American will take part in his third Ryder Cup competition when play begins at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland.

The 36-year-old Sea Island, Ga., native brings with him a 3-2-2 record in his previous appearances in 2010 and 2012. He finished sixth in the U.S. standings in Ryder Cup points and earned an automatic berth on the U.S. team, having logged 11 top-10 finishes and a victory at the RBC Heritage Classic this year in 22 PGA Tour starts.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Kuchar has played on a United States team for either the Presidents Cup (2011, 2013) or Ryder Cup (2010, 2012, 2014). He has a way to go to catch another former Tech All-American, Stewart Cink, who has played on five Ryder Cup teams and four Presidents Cup teams, though not all in a row.

A Georgia Tech player has been every U.S. Ryder Cup team since 1999, when David Duval was tapped. Duval played in two Ryder Cups (1999, 2002), while Stewart Cink played for the U.S. in five (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010). Kuchar has played in the last two (2010, 2012).

Competition begins Friday with Fourball and Foursomes matches, continuing Saturday with another session of Fourball and Foursomes matches. Singles matches involving all 12 players from each team will conclude the competition on Sunday.

Kuchar will sit out the morning fourball session along with Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson and Hunter Mahan, but U.S. captain Tom Watson indicated in his remarks that they would play in the afternoon foursomes matches.
