THE FLATS – Winners of its first two fall tournaments and now ranked No. 2 in the nation, Georgia Tech returns to action after a two-week break by competing in the seventh annual Brickyard Collegiate this Friday through Sunday in Macon, Ga.
The Yellow Jackets will be looking for their second victory at the Brickyard in three years, having won the 2011 event with a 16-shot victory over Florida State and finishing second a year ago. The 54-hole event is played at the Brickyard at Riverside Course, a 7,128-yard, par 72 layout designed by Mark McCumber. Tech has played in all six previous tournaments, finishing second twice, third once and fourth once in addition to the 2011 win.
The 15-team field includes 8th-ranked Georgia, No. 15 Florida State and Augusta State alongside host Mercer. Other committed squads include Air Force, Boston College, Chattanooga, Furman, Georgia State, Gonzaga, Louisville, Princeton, South Florida and Virginia Tech.
Tech’s starting five remains the same as in the first two events, including Carpet Capital Collegiate co-medalist Ollie Schniederjans and Tar Heel Intercollegiate victory Seth Reeves, as well as Bo Andrews, Anders Albertson and Richard Werenski.
Schniederjans (Jr., Powder Springs, Ga.), who finished second at the Tar Heel event, leads the Yellow Jackets with an even 70.0 stroke average, followed closely by Reeves (Sr., Duluth, Ga.), at 70.5. Werenski (Sr., South Hadley, Mass.), has finished in the top five of both events and has averaged 71.0. Albertson (Jr., Woodstock, Ga.) tied for fourth at the Tar Heel and averages 71.67, while Andrews (Sr., Raleigh, N.C.) averages 74.67.
Freshman Vincent Whaley, a junior All-American from McKinney, Texas, will make his Tech debut competing as an individual.

KUCHAR, WOODS PAIRED TOGETHER AT PRESIDENTS CUP
Matt Kuchar, winner of two big match-play events in his career, the 1997 U.S. Amateur and this year’s Accenture Match Play Championship on the PGA Tour, and Tigers Woods have been paired together for the United States in one of the six four-ball matches that will be played in Thursday’s opening day of The Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
Kuchar, ranked No. 8 in the Official World Golf Ranking, is on the U.S. team for the second time, having participated in 2011. He posted a 1-3-1 record as the Yankees defeated the International team for the seventh time in nine Presidents Cups in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
TECH REMAINS ON TOP IN FINAL RIVALS CUP STANDINGS
Georgia Tech finished the 2013 PGA Tour season ranked No. 1 among all NCAA men’s golf programs in total earnings in rankings compiled by the Rivals Cup. Nine former Yellow Jackets earned more than $11.4 million this year, taking top honors over Georgia and UNLV after ranking fifth in 2011 and fourth in 2012.
Tech’s margin over Georgia, which also had nine alumni on tour this year, was more than $1.2 million. Matt Kuchar earned $5,153,608 while winning twice, while Roberto Castro ($2,154,898) and Stewart Cink ($1,052,712) each surpassed the $1M mark. Cameron Tringale and Nicholas Thompson missed that mark by less than $50,000.
With Chesson Hadley’s third-place finish in combined earnings in the Web.com Tour’s regular season and Finals, and Troy Matteson’s finish in the Finals top 25, Tech will have eight alumni with some level of exempt status on the PGA Tour in 2013-14.
