Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Larry Mize earned his highest finish of the year on the Champions Tour with a tie for third at the Toshiba Classic.
Oct. 11, 2016

THE FLATS - Larry Mize, the 1987 Masters champion and now a nine-year veteran on the PGA Tour Champions, earned his best finish of the 2016 season last weekend, tying for third place at the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, Calif., posting a 14-under-par score of 199. He rose to 46th on this year’s Schwab Cup points list. The performance also pushed him past $4 million in career earnings on the senior circuit, and past $12 million combined lifetime on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour.

As the Champions Tour rolls on in 2016, the PGA Tour begins a new season this weekend on the West Coast.

Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski, who both finished in the top 10 in earnings for 2016 on the Web.com Tour, begin enjoying the fruits of their effort this week in Napa wine country when they compete in the opening event of the 2016-17 season, the Safeway Open.

Werenski, 24, who has one PGA Tour event under his belt with the 2015 Barbasol Championship (made the cut), won the 2015 BMW Charity Pro-Am and had three runner-up showings to finish second in Web.com Tour earnings. Schniederjans, 23, won the Air Capital Classic last season and finished seventh in earnings. He has played in 14 PGA Tour events over the past two years since graduating from Georgia Tech, making eight cuts and accumulating $228,692 in earnings.

Here’s a look at the PGA Tour’s 50 newest members.

Players from The 25 and The Finals 25 on the Web.com Tour will now be ‘zippered’ into the priority ranking for the 2016-17 PGA Tour season (No. 1 from The 25, No. 1 from The Finals 25, No. 2 from The 25, and so on.). Thirty-eight of those are in the field this week.

They’ll be joined at the Safeway Open by former Tech stars Matt Kuchar and Roberto Castro, both of whom advanced to the 2016 Tour Championship and finished No. 18 and 21, respectively, in FedEx Cup points, as well as Stewart Cink, Bryce Molder and Cameron Tringale.

With six alumni playing regularly on the PGA Tour, former Yellow Jackets ranked No. 3 in combined earnings in the annual Rivals Cup race. Led by Werenski and Schniederjans, Tech alumni collectively ranked No. 1 on the Web.com Tour.
