Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Oct. 25, 2016

THE FLATS – It was a slow week on the PGA Tour for Georgia Tech alumni, with only Cameron Tringale making the trip to Malaysia to play in the CIMB Classic. Tringale finished 76th with a 6-over-par score of 294.

Tour players compete on two fronts this week, with the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions event taking place in Shanghai, China and the Sanderson Farms Championship stateside in Jackson, Miss.

Matt Kuchar and Roberto Castro, who both finished in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup points race in 2015-16, are qualified to play in all four WGC events for 2016-17 and will both be in the field this week at Kuala Lumpur.

Wheels up to Shanghai, the most populous city proper in the world (24MM) Crazy nugget: Mumbai is more than 5x as densely pop. as Shanghai 😳

The balance of Tech alumni on the Tour will be in Jackson, Miss., including 2001 Open Champion David Duval and All-American Chesson Hadley, as well as Troy Matteson, Bryce Molder and Richy Werenski.

Champions Tour: Larry Mize, the 1987 Masters Champion and in his eighth year on the PGA Tour Champions, has qualified for the first-ever Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs on the heels of a strong finishes in recent weeks that lifted him from 63rd to 39th on the Schwab Cup points standings. He has finished third in each of his last two events, and has three top-20 finishes in majors this year, his best work in more than four years.

Web.com Tour: Three former Yellow Jackets — Seth Reeves, J.T. Griffin and Drew Czuchry — have advanced to the second stage of the tour’s qualifying school. Reeves and Griffin both medaled at their respective events, Griffin finishing alone in first (275, -13) at Dothan, Ala., and Reeves tying for first with four other players (277, -11) at Pine Mountain, Ga. Czuchry tied for 17th at Pine Mountain to advance to the second stage.

First stage qualifying was conducted at 12 different venues. Second stage qualifying will be held Nov. 1-4 in Beaumont, Calif., and Mobile, Ala., and Nov. 8-11 at Brooksville, Fla., McKinney, Texas and Plantation, Fla. The final stage of Q-school is set for Dec. 8-11 at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla.
