#ProJackets Golf Update

Oct. 27, 2015

THE FLATS – Cameron Tringale posted the third runner-up finish of his career, coming up one stroke short of victory at last weekend’s Shriners Hospital for Children’s Open in Las Vegas, Nev.

The 2009 Tech graduate and three-time collegiate champion finished in a six-player tie at 15-under-par 269 with Patton Kizzire, Jason Bohn, Alex Cejka, Kevin Na and Brett Stegmaier. He held a share of the lead during Saturday’s third round and was within a stroke of the lead with seven holes to play on Sunday. But three bogeys in four holes stunted his round, and two birdies in the last three holes left him a shot shy of Smylie Kaufman, whose final-round 61 lifted him to the victory.

Tringale surpassed $8 million in career earnings and earned the highest finish by a Georgia Tech alumnus on tour since his own runner-up finish at last year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He has posted a runner-up finish each of the past three years.

Four other Tech players made the cut, including Ollie Schniederjans (T38), Roberto Castro (T43), Stewart Cink (T56) and Chesson Hadley (T62). Schniederjans has accumulated more earnings in the first two events of 2015-16 than any other non-member of the PGA Tour ($43,074) with finishes of T48 and T38.

Cink, Hadley and Tringale are in the field for this week’s CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

PGA Tour LatinoAmerica: Matt Kuchar earned his second international victory in as many weeks, teaming up with fellow American Jonathan Hueber to win the Bridgestone America’s Golf Cup in Mexico City. The duo won the 72-hole, best-ball event with a 34-under-par total of 250, and fired an 11-under-par 60 in the final round to win by four strokes. Kuchar singlehandedly took control of the final round and secured the title for the two of them. An eagle and six birdies for an impressive 8-under 28 on the front nine pretty much sealed the deal, as the Kuchar-Hueber team opened a five-stroke lead halfway through the afternoon.

Web.com Tour Q-School – Three second stage events are scheduled for Nov. 10-13 in Brooksville, Fla., Kingwood, Texas and McKinney, Texas, with two more set for Nov. 17-20 in Beaumont, Calif., and Plantation, Fla. Fields have not yet been set for those events, but six Tech alumni will each compete in one of them, including Anders Albertson, Drew Czuchry, John-Tyler Griffin, Shun Yat Hak, Kyle Scott and Matt Weibring.

Richard Werenski is exempt into the finals, which will be held Dec. 10-13 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

SwingThought.com Tour Anders Albertson picked up his first professional victory and a $5,000 first-place check at last week’s Atlanta Series event at the Echelon Golf Club in Alpharetta, Ga. Drew Czuchry tied for 8th.
