Nov. 1, 2014

The University of Hawaii at Manoa’s men’s golf team hosts the third annual event, which features teams from the Southeastern Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pacific-12 Conference and the Big Ten Conference. The format is a 54-hole stroke-play event (three rounds) with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time each day.

Participating teams include the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, University of San Diego, East Tennessee State, Boise State, Utah, Idaho, Louisville, Pepperdine University, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, University of California at Santa Barbara, University of San Francisco, Mississippi and McNeese State.

Tech hopes to make a strong finish to the fall season after stumbling to a sixth-place and a seventh-place finish in its last two events. The Yellow Jackets were in contention at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in early October before falling back on the back nine of the final round. At its own United States Collegiate Championship two weeks ago, Tech played poorly in the opening round before putting together two solid finishing rounds (collective 8-under-par).

All-America senior Ollie Schniederjans (Powder Springs, Ga.) anchors a Tech lineup that will include three-time All-ACC senior Anders Albertson (Woodstock, Ga.), sophomore Michael Hines (Acworth, Ga.) and freshmen Jacob Joiner (Leesburg, Ga.) and Chris Petefish (Danville, Calif.).

Schniederjans has a win and three top-5 finishes in Tech’s four fall events and a 68.67 stroke average over 12 rounds. The world’s top-ranked amateur has six career wins and is bidding to catch Bryce Molder and David Duval for the all-time Tech mark of eight.

Albertson has played unevenly this fall but has three top-20 finishes in four events. Petefish finished the USCC in strong fashion with a closing 68 and tied for 25th place in his collegiate debut, while Joiner finished in the same position with three solid rounds. Hines tied for 19th place (1-under-par 215) competing as an individual.
