THE FLATS – Though the PGA Tour is in its official holiday break during the 2016-17 season, Matt Kuchar has kept busy, playing in a pair of non-official events, including last weekend’s Hero World Challenge in New Providence in The Bahamas, the annual event co-hosted by Tiger Woods.

While the golf world was focused on the return of Woods to competition for the first time in more than a year, Kuchar quietly played a stellar 72 holes of golf and tied for third place at 13-under-par 275, beginning with a pair of 67s on the first two days.

Kuchar will team with former Georgia All-American Harris English for the fourth time in this weekend’s Franklin Templeton Shootout in Naples, Fla., a two-man team event. Kuchar and English have posted some incredible numbers since starting their partnership with a victory in 2013 and following it up with runner-up finishes in both 2014 and 2015. In their first three years as a team, English and Kuchar are 93-under-par in nine rounds at the Franklin Templeton Shootout. They also own or share two tournament records and have pocketed $870,000 each in their short work together.

Meanwhile, Stewart Cink will team up with his son Connor at the annual PNC Father/Son Challenge at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla. David Duval and his stepson, Nick Karavites, are also in the 20-team field that will compete Friday through Sunday in a scramble format for a $1.085 million purse and the Willie Park Trophy.

Team Cink won the title in 2013 with Connor. Participants in the PNC Father/Son Challenge must have won either a major championship or The Players in their careers. Cink and Duval have each won the Open Championship, which Park and his son, Willie, Jr., combined to win five times.

Cink has played in this event the last three years, twice with Connor, and once with his other son, Reagan, currently a student at Georgia Tech. Duval is playing for the third time, and for the second time with Nick.

Web.com Tour: Seth Reeves makes his bid to become a member of the Web.com Tour this weekend at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla. Reeves rolled through the second stage at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla., tying for second place with an 11-under-par score of 277. He grabbed one of 18 spots available from that site (there were four second-stage sites).

PGA Tour China: Shun Yat Hak, a freshman on Georgia Tech’s 2013 NCAA semifinal team, began the season with no status and Monday-qualified his way into a 17th-place Order of Merit finish, earning ￥251,305. He put together three consecutive top-10 finishes late in the year, and had seven top-25 finishes in 10 events this season.
