No. 12 Jackets Sweep Clemson in ACC Opener

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis (8-2) swept the Clemson Tigers (8-5) in its first Atlantic Coast Conference match this season. The No. 12 Yellow Jackets return home to Ken Byers Tennis Complex on Sunday, Mar. 5 for a noon match with Florida State.

Singles Update: Junior Christopher Eubanks took the first singles point for the Jackets, topping Alex Favrot, 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Carlos Divar followed suit, winning in straight sets at the number four position over Arturo Pinazo, 6-3, 6-0. No. 53 Andrew Li clinched the win for Tech at 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 rout of Daffra Sanon. Seniors Carlos Benito and Cole Fiegel went on to win at the three and five spots, respectively. Daniel Yun finished the sweep for the Jackets with a 6-4, 7-6 win at the six position.

Doubles Update: The Jackets took the doubles point for the eighth time this season. Eubanks and Michael Kay dropped their match 6-3 to give the Tigers the advantage in the doubles point. Fiegel and Li evened the score with a 7-6 win at the three position. Battling back from an early deficit, Benito and Divar clinched the doubles point for the Jackets with a 7-6 win over Pinazo and Favrot.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “The guys did a great job of carrying the doubles point momentum into singles. We played solid throughout the match. It is always nice to get a road win in the ACC. We would love to get a good home crowd this Sunday against Florida State.”
