Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame, ranked 36th in the nation, earned victories at the top two doubles positions and the top four singles positions and eased past Georgia Tech, 6-1, Sunday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Tech, which had shut out Boston College Friday, fell to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the ACC and looks ahead to a Friday evening home match against Louisville. The Fighting Irish improved to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Notre Dame took advantage of having two of the nation’s top 15 doubles teams in the ITA rankings to easily capture the doubles point. Alex Lawson and Billy Pecor, ranked eighth, clinched the point with an 8-6 win over Tech’s 59th-ranked pair of Carlos Benito and Eduardo Segura on court 1. Eddy Covalschi and Josh Hagar, ranked 14th, took an 8-4 decision from the Jackets’ Michael Kay and Christopher Eubanks at No. 2. Tech’s Cole Fiegel and Nathan Rakitt had begun the match an 8-3 win over Dougie Bernard and Quentin Monaghan at the No. 3 position, to no avail.

The Fighting Irish wasted little time building that momentum, winning the opening sets in all six singles matches. Pecor drew first blood by finishing off Fiegel, 7-5,6-1 on court 4, and Hagar kept Notre Dame rolling with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Benito on court 2. Covalschi defeated Rakitt, ranked 84th in the nation, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 for the deciding point.

Quentin Monaghan, ranked 22nd nationally made it 5-0 in favor of the Irish with a 6-4, 7-6 win over 66th-ranked Eubanks on court 1 before Tech notched its only point with Kay’s three-set win over Lawson at No. 5.
