Jackets Drop 5-2 Decision to No. 1 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Despite Chris Yun picking up his fifth-straight victory in singles, Georgia Tech men’s tennis was unable to upset No. 1 Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

The Yellow Jackets (5-13, 1-7 ACC) are in the midst of a grueling four-match road swing that takes them through all the ACC schools in the Tar Heel State. The Demon Deacons remain No. 1 in the country, now at 18-2 and 7-1 in conference.

C. Yun was able to take one of two singles wins for Georgia Tech on the day to extend his hot streak, defeating Ian Dempter, 7-6 (1), 6-2 at the No. 6 position. Elijah Melendez also regained his form by getting a hard-fought win at the No. 5 court over Alan Gadjiev, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.

The Jackets lost the doubles point as No. 79 Bar Botzer and Petros Chrysochos took down Melendez and C. Yun, while No. 32 Dempster and Skander Mansouri defeated No. 14 Carlos Divar and Michael Kay.

Phillip Gresk and Andrew Li were able to grind out a victory at the No. 3 spot, defeating Borna Gojo and Gadjiev, 6-4.

In singles, No. 64 Divar was unable to take No. 8 Gojo, falling in a back-and-forth affair, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3), while No. 5 Chrysochos defeated Kay, 6-4, 6-2.

No. 41 Skander Mansouri for Wake Forest overcame Phillip Gresk at the No. 3 spot, 7-6 (5), 6-4, before Botzer downed Li, 6-0, 6-3 to seal the victory for the Demon Deacons.

The Yellow Jackets return to the court on Saturday, April 14 when they head to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina at noon.
