Athens, Ga. -All-American Guillermo Gomez advanced to the quarterfinals in Division I, while Dusan Miljevic and Miguel Muguruza reached the round of 16 Sunday as rain caused havoc with the draw at the Southern Intercollegiate Championship tennis tournament.
Remaining doubles matches in Divisions I and II were canceled, and no consolation matches will be played due to continuing rain at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Gomez, a junior from Alicante, Spain, took a straight-set victory (6-1, 6-2) from Duke's Torstein Wietoska in the round of 32, then the third-seed advanced to Monday's quarterfinal with a walk-over win against Grega Teraz of East Tennessee State.
