Spir and Segura Advance in Doubles at ITA All-American Championship

Tulsa, Okla. – Georgia Tech senior Juan Spir won his opening-round match Thursday at the ITA All-American Championships, but lost in the round of 32 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa.

Spir and sophomore Eduardo Segura won their first-round doubles match, however, defeating Sudanwa Sitaram and Daniel Whitehead of Texas, 8-5. They advanced to face Virginia’s Jarmere Jenkins and Mac Styslinger Friday afternoon in the round of 16.

In the singles draw, Spir, a two-time All-American in doubles who is ranked among the nation’s top 20 singles players, got by Andre Dome of Cal Poly in the first round, 7-6 (7), 6-3, his fourth win of the fall. Roberto Quroz, a qualifier from Southern California, outlasted Spir in the round of 32, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
