MALIBU, Calif. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis junior Christopher Eubanks paired up with North Carolina’s women’s tennis Hayley Carter to win the mixed doubles title at the Oracle ITA Masters on Saturday night with a 8-6 victory over Baylor’s Blair Shankle and Max Tchoutakian.

Both representing the Atlantic Coast Conference, Eubanks and Carter came out to a stunning start at the tournament. The pair took their first two matches 6-1 and 6-0. The pair was tested in their quarterfinals match on Friday, allowing Laskutova and Ram-Harel (Tulsa) to win four games with a final score of 6-4.

The ACC duo handily made their way to the final match, topping the No. 1-seeded Lee (MSU) and Rinderknech (Texas A&M), 6-1. In the finals they faced the Baylor pair who put up the best fight of the tournament for the ACC pairing. Baylor gave up the break 4-5 but the two teams battled it out with Eubanks and Carter aggressively taking the final points.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “Chris and Hayley actually played some really good mixed doubles. They seemed to have a good time playing out there as well. Oracle and ITA put on a great event in Malibu, and I know all the student-athletes had a great experience. Since it is the only mixed doubles tournament in college and it is a national event, Chris just got a mixed doubles national title for Georgia Tech, with a lot of help from Hayley. Chris asked what he should do in mixed doubles and I said just do whatever she tells you,; it is a good game plan on the court and in life as well.”
