Nov. 5, 2009

Gomez, a junior from Alicante, Spain, ranked 5th in the nation, will face Southern California's Robert Farah, the tournament's third seed and the nation's No. 3 player, at 12 noon Friday. Farah won a straight-set match from Texas A&M's Austin Krajicek, 6-3, 6-4.

"This was a very difficult match," Gomez said. "[Puetz's] game is not easy to play against, and he executed very well after the first set. I'm excited about playing against Farah again. It is going to be a great match."

Gomez, hampered somewhat by an abdominal injury this fall, improved to 10-1 in signles this fall. The winner of his match Friday moves on to the quarterfinals to face either Stanford's Bradley Klahn (No. 15) or Wisconsin's Moritz Baumann (No. 19), both of whom won straight-set matches Thursday.
