Jackets Host Georgia State, Travel to Auburn

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis returns home on Friday, Feb. 3 to take on hometown rival Georgia State at 5 p.m. at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The squad then heads to Auburn, Ala. where they will face off against the Tigers at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 5.

The Scene: Georgia Tech entered the ITA Top-25 for the first time this season, debuting at No. 24. The Jackets were bounced into the rankings after their 4-1 rout of No. 18 Stanford. Georgia State brings in a 4-2 record on Friday with wins over FAMU, Auburn, Troy and Florida State. The Panthers have one ranked singles player in No. 105 Felipe Jaworski.

Parking for Friday’s match is available in the McCamish lots and on Fowler Street. Admission is free.

Auburn holds a 2-1 record with wins over Central Florida and Nebraska. The Tigers hosts Alabama A&M on Saturday in a double-header before taking on the Jackets on Sunday.

Singles Update: Senior Cole Fiegel and junior Christopher Eubanks remain undefeated in single’s play this season, holding 2-0 records at the six spot and at the one spot, respectively.

Doubles Update: Fiegel and Andrew Li advanced to 4-0 on the season playing at the three spot in doubles. Carlos Benito and Carlos Divar have been playing well at the No. 2 spot, carrying a 2-1 record with wins over No. 47 and No. 55 pairings.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “It’s great to be back home against Georgia State. They have played well this year. We are counting on good senior leadership to keep us consistent this season. We would love to get as many Georgia Tech fans out there as possible. We are headed to Auburn on Sunday for a good away match. Our schedule and tough and our guys should be getting tougher each week.”
