March 11, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis continues Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 12 p.m. matchup with Miami on Sunday, March 12 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.

Setting the Scene: The Yellow Jackets opened ACC play last weekend with wins at Clemson and over No. 33 Florida State. With the best start since 2011, Tech carries a 9-2 record on the season. The Hurricanes are 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in ACC play, falling to Clemson in a close 4-3 bout on Feb. 19.

Singles Update: Junior Christopher Eubanks held steady at No. 7 in the ITA rankings released on Tuesday. The Atlanta native is 6-1 on the season playing at the No. 1 position. Cole Fiegel has provided senior leadership for the Jackets, holding an 8-0 record on the season playing at the four, five and six positions.

Doubles Update: The Jackets dropped the doubles point for just the third time on Sunday to Florida State. Carlos Benito and Carlos Divar have a 7-2 record at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Cole Fiegel and Andrew Li have also come up with some big contributions in the doubles point, the pair is 7-1 on the season.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “Sometimes when we head to Miami it is our first outdoor match. I feel like we’ve been playing outdoors most of the spring so that helps our preparation. Aljosa Piric, a former coach at Tech, is coaching there now and he will do a great job. We are looking forward to a tough match.”
