The Yellow Jackets’ Divar will compete in singles competition for his second-career NCAA Championships appearance while joining teammate Kay for doubles action. Kay enters NCAA postseason play for the third time in his career.
Divar earns the at-large bid after finishing the season ranked No. 61 in the country. After battling a series of nagging midseason injuries that dropped his overall record to 16-17, the sophomore finished the season strong at the No. 1 spot, winning two-straight singles matches in crunch time to help Georgia Tech advance to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament for the fourth-consecutive year.
The Vitoria, Spain, native started the year on fire, winning 12 of his first 15 matches, including victories over six nationally ranked opponents, to cement himself among the country’s best.
In doubles, the Yellow Jackets tandem of Divar and Kay made the cut after finishing the regular season ranked 20th in the nation. The duo fought to an 18-8 overall record, including a 14-5 mark in duals. Reaching as high as No. 7 in the country this season, the two toppled four nationally ranked foes, including the then-No. 3 doubles team at Texas.
The team went on two win streaks that equaled four or more matches and are currently riding a three-match hot streak entering the NCAA Tournament.
The singles and doubles competition will run May 23-28 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C., after the conclusion of the team championships (May 18-22).
