No. 19 Men's Tennis Opens NCAA Regional in Gainesville

THE FLATS — Georgia Tech men’s tennis kicks off the 2017 NCAA Championships on Friday when it takes on Minnesota in the Gainesville Regional in Gainesville, Fla. The match is slated for 2 p.m. at the Ring Tennis Complex.

Setting the Scene: The Yellow Jackets (17-7, 8-4 ACC) ended their ACC Tournament run with a 4-0 loss to No. 1 Wake Forest in the semifinals. The Jackets earned the fourth seed in the tournament, topping Duke 4-3 to reach the semifinal round. Tech makes its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Completing the Gainesville Regional is No. 15 Florida and Florida Gulf Coast.

The Jackets will meet the No. 39 Gophers for the sixth time in program history. Tech holds the series advantage at 3-2, winning the last meeting in 2004.

Singles Update: With the previous weekend off, the Jackets aim to return with the lineup at full strength. Holding down the one spot is the two-time ACC Player of the Year, Christopher Eubanks. Eubanks carries a 17-2 mark on the season and an 11-1 ledger in ACC play. The junior was selected as the seventh seed in the NCAA Singles Championship.

At the two, All-ACC third team selection Andrew Li. Carlos Benito remains at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. Completing the bottom half of the lineup at four is freshman Carlos Divar, at five Daniel Yun and at six Chris Yun.

Doubles Update: Benito and Eubanks will play at the one spot for the Yellow Jackets. The tandem of Cole Fiegel and Li will take on the two position, and Divar and Daniel Yun will team up at three.
