Eubanks, listed No. 53 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, faces a familiar foe in the 31st-ranked Pasha, a senior from Atlanta. The Tech freshman defeated Pasha, 7-5, 7-5, in a match during Georgia Tech’s MLK Invitational in January. They’ll face off at 3 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday and are paired against the winner of top-16 seed Yannick Hanfmann of Southern California (No. 15 ITA) and Dane Webb of Oklahoma (No. 44 ITA) for Thursday’s second round.

“There are no easy draws in this tournament, so I know Chris is prepared for a tough match regardless of the opponent,” said Tech coach Kenny Thorne. “He just happens to know Nathan well, and it should be a great match.”

The former Westlake High School star, who made the All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as a freshman, has an overall singles record of 24-20 this year, including a 10-8 mark in tournament play with a victory in the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational. He played at the top of the Yellow Jackets’ lineup in dual matches all spring, posting a 14-12 record as the No. 1 or 2 player in the order. He has beaten five nationally-ranked players, including four among the nation’s top 40 in the ITA rankings.

Among his singles victories were No. 37 Andreas Bjerrehus of Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament, No. 5 Seb Stiefelmeyer of Louisville, No. 11 Austin Smith and No. 15 Nathan Pasha of Georgia, and No. 69 Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech during the regular season.

Tech has had at least one individual in the NCAA singles championship every year since 2007, with the exception of last year.
