Moss, Lemons earn victories for Tech at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. - Shantia Moss won the 60-meter hurdles with another NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time to lead the Georgia Tech track & field teams on the final day of the Clemson Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
The women finished the two-day meet in fifth place with a total of 67 points and men closed out the meet in fourth place with 63 points.
Moss finished with a time of 8.13 in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to earn the victory. Fatmata Fofanah finished behind her teammate in second place with an NCAA Championship preliminary qualifying time of 8.32.
Freshman Jenae Anderson placed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time 7.63. Moss finished the race in 13th place with a time of 7.77
Anderson also crossed the line sixth in the 200-meter with a time of 25.02. In the 800-meter run, freshman Amanda Montgomery crossed the line in a time of 2:20.28 for a fourth-place finish. Junior Ashley Keck placed 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:25.23.
On the men's side, the Jackets took swept the top three spots with James Lemons II winning with an NCAA Championship preliminary qualifying mark of 52 feet, 8 ¼ inches. Alphonso Jordan landed in second place, also scoring an NCAA provisional mark of 51 feet, 5 ½ inches. Nigel Orr rounded out the top three with a mark of 48 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
Jordan placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.14. Dave Ford finished in fifth place with a time of 8.32.
Mark Mendrek-Laske, a freshman from New Orleans, La., placed fifth in the mile with a time of 4:20.70. Garad Soderman finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:54.35. Also placing in the 3000m run was Matthew Hickey, who crossed the line 10th with a time of 8:55.73.
The track & field teams will travel on Saturday, Jan. 26 to the Tom Jones Memorial at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Fla.
