Track & Field Takes Part in Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia Tech women and men’s track and field team’s took part in the Georgia Invitational in Athens this afternoon. The Jackets carried a limited squad in the meet, but still registered some impressive finishes on the afternoon at the Spec Towns Track.

For the women, Jenae Anderson registered the first solid finish of the afternoon for Tech in the 100m dash, finishing sixth after crossing the finish line in 11.86. Also in the 100m dash, Taylor Davidson finished ninth with a time of 11.99. Anderson also placed in the top ten in the 200m dash with a mark of 24.17, which was a new personal-best.

In the 800m run, sophomore Jade Sims finished second overall after crossing the finish line in 2:15.94, while junior Leslie Njoku also recorded a second place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.01. Teammate Jasmine Isley finished right behind Njoku in the event in third place, crossing the finish line in 1:00.77.

In the pole vault, junior Joanna Wright finished second after posting a final mark of 13 feet, 1.50 inches. Meanwhile, sophomore Bailey Wagner finished second in the shot put with a mark of 47 feet, three inches and third in the discus with a 158 feet, five inch effort. The final member of the women’s team to compete on the afternoon was senior Alana Clooten, who finished third in the hammer throw with a 184 feet, three inch effort.

On the men’s side, Hunter Clasen registered an impressive third place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 48.50, while Shawn Roberts also placed third in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.57.

In the 1500m run, Morgan Stephenson finished fourth overall after crossing the finish line in 3:55.16 (a new personal best), while Eric Powers also registered a top ten finish in the event after finishing in 4:04.44 to place ninth. In the final event of note on the day for the men’s team, DeMario Johnson placed sixth in the 400m hurdles in 53.86.

Georgia Tech returns to action on Friday, May 14th when they host the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Griffin Track. Action gets underway with the hammer throw at 12 noon on Friday and continues at 6 p.m. with the Javelin, Shot Put and time trials for the men’s 110m hurdles.
