Jackets To Kick Off 2011 At The Clemson Invitational

ATLANTA – In their first meet of the year, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field squads will head back to Clemson, S.C. where they will compete in the Clemson Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 7 and 8.

The Jackets started out their 2010-11 indoor season at Clemson on December 4 when they competed in the Orange and Purple Winter Classic. The Yellow Jacket jumpers shone on the day combining for two of the three first place finishes. Both Mykhail Chambers’ first place high jump of 2.10 meters (6-10.75) and Omar Morrison’s victory leap in the long jump of 7.31 meters (23-11.75) currently stand seventh in the country.

On the women’s side, the pole vaulting corps of Joanna Wright and Erica Penk did some damage each recording heights of 3.70 meters (12-1.5), currently 21st in the country. Wright took home the victory in a jump off while Penk placed third.

The meet will mark the return of the Jackets to the track after a month long break during finals.

Action will kick off on Friday night at 5 p.m. The first event on the track of the night will be the Distance Medley Relay. The relay will be followed by the 60 meter hurdles trials, 60 meter dash trials, 5,000 meter run, 60 meter hurdles finals, 60 meter dash finals, 500 meter run and 300 meter run.

On the field side of things, the night will begin with the triple jump and weight throw followed by the pole vault and high jump at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the day will begin with the high and long jumps prelims at 11 a.m. to be followed by the long jump finals and pole vault finals. At Noon, the track events will start with the mile run followed by the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 200 meter dash, 3,000 meter run and the 4×400 meter relay to conclude all events.
