Track and Field Wraps Up Meyo Invitational

Feb. 4, 2017

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Georgia Tech track and field rewrote 12 personal bests on Saturday as it wrapped up the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.

“Day two was another good day for us with several more PRs,” said men’s track and field head coach Grover Hinsdale. “The guys competed hard throughout the weekend and I am very pleased with the fight and effort put forth.”

Freshman Tyson Spears qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.88. He went on to finish sixth in the finals. Dwayne Watkins registered a career-best time of 50.11 in the 400m. Freshman Bennett Hillier showed continued improvement, posting a career best in the 800m with a time of 1:54.74. Avery Bartlett cruised to an 18th-place finish in the mile run with a career-best time of 4:08.71. Senior Alex Grady also raced a career-best time in the mile of 4:13.29. Christian Bowles, Matt Munns and Mitchell Sanders all posted career bests in the 3000m with times of 8:10.16, 8:21.45 and 8:23.22, respectively.

“The women competed well today and we continue to make significant progress each week,” said women’s track head coach Alan Drosky. “The long sprints were good and culminated with a great effort in the 4x400m relay. The hurdlers raced well but just missed advancing to the finals. The distance group raced to some nice personal bests. We’ve got to keep working and build on this momentum each week.”

Charlotte Stephens registered a career-best time of 4:57.68 in the mile, breaking the five minute mark for the first time in her career. Mary Claire Solomon also raced a career best in the mile with a time of 5:07.14. Hailey Gollnick and Courtney Naser both finished the 3000m in career-best times of 10:03.61 and 10:17.35, respectively. Raven Stewart recorded a career best in the 60-meter hurdles semifinals with a time of 8.56 but did not advance to the finals.
