Schedule of Events

After a good showing at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet, the Georgia Tech track and field teams will once again head out on the road for their third meet in as many weeks, this time traveling to Birmingham, Ala. for the Vulcan Invitational on February 10 and 11. The meet will take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off of an overall good weekend at the VT Elite meet where they racked up 20 top-10 finishes including  two first place victories for Shawn Roberts (800m) and Melanie Akwule (60m Hurdles). Roberts’ time (1:51.23) was the second fastest in the ACC this season and a career best while Akwule’s (8.37) was the fifth fastest among ACC runners in 2012.

The meet will begin Friday evening at 4 p.m. with both the women’s shot put and the women’s mile. The other field events taking place on the night are the women’s long jump, men’s shot put, men’s pole vault, men’s long jump and women’s high jump. On the track side of things, there is also the men’s mile, the men’s and women’s 60m dash prelims, the men’s and women’s 60m hurdles prelims, the men’s and women’s distance medley and the men’s and women’s 5,000m run.

Competition on Saturday starts off bright and early at 9 a.m. with the women’s weight throw. The men’s weight throw will begin at noon and will be  followed by the men’s high jump, women’s triple jump, women’s pole vault and men’s triple jump.

The track events will begin at noon on Saturday and the 400m run will start things off with the 60m dash finals to follow. The men’s and women’s 60m hurdles will be the next event followed by the 800m run, 200m dash, 3,000m run and the day will conclude, as always, with the 4×400 meter relays.
