NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Georgia Tech track & field team had one of its strongest days of the year on Saturday, which included many high finishes and personal bests at the Music City Invitational.

“I am very pleased with the way the men’s team competed this weekend,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “We had numerous PRs, especially in the middle distance and distance group. It’s hard to single out any one great performance, but I have to mention three of our 800m runners. Avery Bartlett, Chris Burnett, and Gabriel Darosa all had excellent races and big PRs. Again, a very solid meet for us.”

Bartlett finished third in the 800m with a time of 1:49.79, while Burnett finished sixth with a time of 1:50.23. Darosa also finished in the top 10, taking ninth place with a time of 1:52.10.

AZ Reese and Spencer Allen both had top 5 finishes, as Allen finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.96 and Reese finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 48.77.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Greenwald was in action in Boston at the Boston University Valentine Invitational, where he finished 14th with a time of 4:03.05 in the mile.

On the women’s side, Bria Matthews continued her great season in the long jump, finishing third with a mark of 6.35. Kenya Collins was able to claim a victory in the 60m hurdles, clocking a time of 8.34.

“This was the best meet for the women as a team, which is what we were looking for heading into the conference meet,” said head women’s coach Alan Drosky. “Once again, we were led by Bria and Kenya who have consistently put up outstanding performances. Jamilah (Middlebrooks) has been getting better every week, and we got some big personal bests from the distance runners. We can still get better, so we’ll work hard for the next two weeks.”

Melissa Fairey (3000m) and Haley Anderson (mile) were among those with personal bests on Saturday.

The Jackets’ next competition will be the ACC Indoor Championships in Boston Feb. 25-27.
