Track & Field Takes on ACC Indoor Championship

THE FLATS – It’s championship season and Georgia Tech track and field heads to South Bend, Ind. for the 2017 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 23-25.

The televised broadcast of the championship is on Friday, Feb. 24 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 25 from noon until 4 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.

The squads look to improve upon lasts year’s finishes of 10th with 34 points on the women’s side and 13th with 25 points on the men’s.

The championship is hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Sports Center. The Jackets are no strangers to this venue; Tech competed at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame earlier this season.

In a highly competitive conference, with three nationally ranked teams on the men’s side and one on the women’s, Tech has 10 student-athletes ranked in the top 10 of various events.

A few key players on the women’s side are Kenya Collins and Donjhae Jones. Collins posted top-three finishes in the 60m hurdles at four meets this season, including a first-place finish in the season opener BSC Indoor Icebreaker. Collins ranks eighth in the ACC in the 60m hurdles. Jones will compete in the long jump at the championship. The last time the she competed at the Loftus Sports Center, Jones grabbed a third-place finish in the long jump with a career-best leap of 6.15m. She ranks fifth in the ACC in the long jump.

On the men’s side, Andres Littig will race in the 800m and the men’s distance medley relay. He has scored for the Yellow Jackets in every ACC championship he has competed in. Chris Burnett, Benjamin Jean and Avery Bartlett join Littig on Tech’s DMR team. Junior William Solomon will compete in both the long jump and triple jump for the Jackets. The California native ranks third in the ACC in the long jump this season with a mark of 7.55m.
