Field Events Highlight Day 2 at ACC Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – On the second day of competition Friday at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships at Virginia Tech’s Rector Field House, three Yellow Jackets scored points in the field events and several Georgia Tech student-athletes qualified for final events set for Saturday.

The Jackets wrap up the final day of competition at the ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday. Action begins with the field events at 10 a.m. and live ESPN3 coverage will begin at 12 p.m.

Georgia Tech has an opportunity to score points in 10 events Saturday. After two days of competition, the Georgia Tech women are in 14th place with six points and the men have a chance to score points in seven events on Saturday.

Freshman Bailey Weiland earned the Georgia Tech women’s team 2.5 points in the high jump. Weiland tied for sixth place with a height of 1.70m (5’7″). Samantha Becker added 0.5 of a point, tying for eighth in the women’s pole vault (3.97m; 13’0.25″).

In the long jump, Carissa Tipler placed seventh to earn Tech two team points with a career-best distance of 5.90m (19’4.25″).

Four Yellow Jackets qualified for the finals in their events set for Saturday. Spencer Allen qualified for the men’s finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 7.99 in sixth place.

Freshman Zachary Gunnz qualified for the finals in the 60 meters with a time of 6.91 and sixth place in the prelims.

Sophomore Andres Littig and junior Chris Burnett both qualified for the finals in the 800m. Littig placed third with a PR time of 1:50.75 for third and Burnett also posted a PR time of 1:51.68 for eighth place.
