Jackets Head To Tiger Track Classic

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will head out for their first away meet of the 2011 outdoor season when they travel to Auburn, Ala. for the Tiger Track Classic at the Hutsell-Rosen Track on Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2.

Nineteen men’s teams and 19 women’s teams will attend the meet, including the ranked host team of Auburn. The Tigers are 18th in the country on the men’s side and the women are 12th in the nation.

The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m. CT/5:30 p.m. ET with the hammer throw and the javelin. The hammer throw will begin with the men, followed by the women, while the javelin will do the opposite.

Saturday will see the rest of the events take place. The day will begin at 11 a.m. with the women’s pole vault, men to follow. At 11:30, both the men’s and women’s long jumps will take place with the triple jump to follow.

The first track events of the weekend will begin at Noon as the women start things off with the 4×100 meter relay followed by the 1,500 meter run. At 1 p.m. both the 100m hurdles and the high jump will begin.

The final field events of the weekend, the discus and shot put will start at 1:15 p.m. After the hurdles, the track athletes will run the 400 meter dash, the 100 meter dash, the 800 meter run, the 400 meter hurdles, the 200 meter dash, the 3,000 meter steeplechase and then the 4×400 meter run.

The women’s 3,000 meter run section one will take part at 5:55 p.m. followed by the men’s 3,000 meter run to conclude the meet.

Tech hosted the Yellow Jacket Invitational over the course of the March 25-26 weekend as the rain dampened some of the events, shortening the meet. The Jackets took home three victories and posted 14 top-3 finishes over the course of the weekend.
