GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Jeremy Greenwald ran to a first-place finish in the 1,500 meters Friday to highlight day one for the Georgia Tech track and field team at the Florida Relays. Greenwald picked up his first collegiate victory in a time of 3:48.03.

“It was my first win of the season, actually my first win in college,” Greenwald said. “It feels good. A little windy, but it was a great race. We ran the Georgia Tech Invitational last weekend, and I ended up getting second in that race.

“I felt better for this week for sure. I feel fit. I think I’m strong enough, I just need to work on the last 300 [meters] and I’ll be right where I want to be.”

Teammate Joseph Stowe followed right behind Greenwald in a runner-up finish with a mark of 3:49.94. Alec Clifford crossed the line ninth in the event with a time of 3:51.53.

Also for the men, Eric Powers placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:12.94. Brandon Lasater continues having success in the 800 meters with a fourth-place performance in a personal-record time of 1:48.34.

Katie Townsend recorded a ninth-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a career-best mark of 16:57.89. In the men’s 5,000 meters, Billy Koskiewicz posted a ninth-place performance with a time of 14:45.30.

In the field events, Jhanelle McLeod took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.12m (20’1”). Julienne McKee logged a seventh-place finish in the long jump invitational (5.89m; 19’4”).

Georgia Tech continues action at the Florida Relays Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m. at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.
