THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field junior Brandon Lasater was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets have claimed the award on back-to-back weeks as Broderick Snoddy earned the honor last week.

Friday at the Pepsi Florida Relays, Lasater led the Yellow Jackets and ran the fastest 800-meter time of his career to place second with a time of 1:47.19 - the second-fastest mark nationwide.

On Saturday, the Yellow Jacket relay team of Jeremy Greenwald, Shawn Roberts, Zack Fanelty and Lasater won the 4x800-meter relay at the Florida Relays for the second-straight year and broke the 20-year-old Georgia Tech school record and the meet record at Percy Beard Track.

The quartet, anchored by Lasater, recorded the fasted time in the nation this season of 7:16.89, which tops the previous school record set in 1994 at 7:18.94. Last season, Georgia Tech edged Florida in the men’s 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:22.37 to win the event and the Jackets did it again, edging the Gators by one second to claim the victory and log the fastest time in the country so far this season.

The Jackets are off from competition this weekend in preparation for the ACC Outdoor Championships April 17-19 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
