April 18, 2013

RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman Ashleigh Uhl’s eighth-place finish in the javelin highlighted the Georgia Tech track and field team’s first day Thursday at the 2013 ACC Outdoor Championships at NC State’s Paul H. Derr Track.

With a season-best toss of 34.19m (112’2”), the Jackson, N.J., native earned Georgia Tech one team point with an eighth-place finish in the javelin throw.

On the track, sophomore Ama Larbi qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.79 to take fourth in the prelims.

Sophomore Jeremy Greenwald grabbed 12th place in the 1,500-meter prelims with a time of 3:48.95 to take the last qualifying spot for the finals.

After the first four events, junior Monique Pate sits in seventh in the heptathlon with 2943 points, 339 points off the leader.

Friday’s schedule has been revised due to the threat of inclement weather.

Events will begin on Friday with the men’s javelin throw at 10:30 a.m. as planned, but the starts for several field events have been moved up to earlier times. In addition, the starting time for the running events has been moved up to 3:15 p.m., two hours earlier than originally planned. The men’s pole vault, originally set for late Friday afternoon, has been rescheduled for Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Live video streaming of the Championships will be available beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Live results will be available throughout the three-day event.
