Men Win 4x800m, Women Set School Record
Men won, women break school record in 4x800m at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Georgia Tech men's 4x800-meter relay team took first place and the women's 4x800-meter relay team set a school record Saturday at the final day of the prestigious Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field.
The Georgia Tech men's relay team run by Andres Littig, Jeremy Greenwald, Zack Fanelty and Brandon Lasater won the 4x800-meter relay Championship of America Invitational. The quartet ran a season-best time of 7:18.84 to cross the line first.
The women's 4x800-meter relay team of Morgan Jackson, Samantha Kiblinger, Christina Pensock and Haley Anderson broke their own school record they set earlier this season. The team crossed the line first in the college division in a time of 8:49.20 to beat their previous record of 8:51.46 set at the Florida Relays.
"We're just really proud of the guys, what a race," head women's track and men's distance coach Alan Drosky said. "We led off with redshirt freshman Andres Littig in whom we were confident would put us in a good position, then challenged the three seniors to get the job done. Jeremy Greenwald and Zack Fanelty kept us in the race and then Brandon Lasater closed the deal with an amazing homestretch run.
"We've had a strong relay for the last three years and have wanted this championship so bad. I'm just happy for not only these four young men, but for our whole program, which keeps pushing each other the achieve more. And just as proud of the way the women competed today, winning the college section of the 4x800m and setting a new school record again."
"We had some very good performances over the weekend, but the obvious highlight was the Georgia Tech win in the 4x800m Relay Championship of America," head men's track coach Grover Hinsdale said. This was the fourth COA that Georgia Tech has won in our 30 year history of attending the Penn Relays. That was a special race. I am very proud of that foursome and congratulate Coach Drosky and [assistant] coach [Becky] Megesi on the great job they have done with them this season."
The Jackets are back in action at the Seminole Twilight on Wednesday, May 6.
