Four Yellow Jackets Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

THE FLATS – Four members of the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field team have earned United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors, the association announced Wednesday.

Seniors Aaron Unterberger and Jasmine Kent, and sophomores Brandon Lasater and Katie Townsend were selected for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team after compiling the required cumulative grade point average of 3.25.

Unterberger was named to the 2013 Indoor All-ACC Academic Team and took that momentum into the outdoor season through which he maintained a 4.0 GPA in industrial engineering. The pole vaulter from Snellville, Ga., is the ACC outdoor pole vault champion and earned All-ACC first team honors

Kent is a 2013 NCAA outdoor first round qualifier in the long jump. She set career bests in the 200 meters (26.28) and long jump (6.12m; 20’1”) during the outdoor season. The Garden Ridge, Texas, native maintained a 3.38 GPA in architecture.

Lasater owned a 3.53 GPA in electrical engineering to go along with a breakout sophomore season. The Perry, Ga., native is the ACC outdoor 800-meter champion, earned All-ACC first team honors and was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week (April 8).

Townsend improved on three of her times to career-bests in the 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters. In addition, she ran in all six cross country meets and finished first for Georgia Tech in every meet. A native of Martinez, Ga., Townsend owns a 3.85 GPA in chemical and biomolecular engineering.
