GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior cross country athlete Alec Clifford was named to the 2013 ACC All-Academic team as announced by the league Friday. Clifford was selected among 30 male student-athletes from around the conference.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.
The 2013 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s cross country is NC State’s Andrew Colley. Florida State’s Colleen Quigley was selected as the 2013 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s cross country.
Clifford maintained a 3.41 GPA in biomedical engineering throughout the 2013 season and currently owns a 3.70 cumulative GPA. The Acworth, Ga. native, finished second for Georgia Tech, and sixth overall, in the UGA Invitational with a time of 26:12. He recorded a career-best 8K time of 24:20 in his 13th place finish at the Furman Classic and crossed the finish line with a career-best 10K time of 31:33 at the NCAA South Regionals.
