Two Yellow Jackets Earn NCAA South All-Region Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Juniors Brandon Lasater and Jeremy Greenwald earned NCAA South All-Region honors as the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 10th and 15th, respectively, Friday at the 2013 NCAA South Region Championships at Harry Pritchett Running Park.

Lasater paced the Georgia Tech men with a 16th-place finish and a career-best 10K time of 30:33. Greenwald followed close behind, crossing the line in 24th place in a personal-best time of 30:44. The last time the Tech men placed at least two members on the All-Region team came in 2001.

The Georgia (72 points) and Florida (73) men’s teams took the top two slots in the race to secure spots in the 2013 NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. Mark Parrish of Florida won the race in a time of 29:44.

The Georgia Tech men finished 10th out of 26 teams with 263 points.

Senior Alec Clifford (personal-best 31:33, 59th), senior Shawn Roberts (31:56, 81st) and freshman Sidney Speir (31:57, 83rd) rounded out the top finishers for the Yellow Jacket men.

Florida State and Vanderbilt claimed the top two spots in the women’s 6K race with 35 and 116 points, respectively, to advance to the 2013 NCAA Championships. FSU took three of the top four spots in the race with Colleen Quigley taking home the win (19:58).

The Yellow Jacket women finished 15th, one spot better than last year, out of 27 teams with a total of 443 points.

Junior Katie Townsend continued to excel on the course, crossing the line first for Tech in a time of 21:36 and 72nd place. Freshman Hayley Keadey (92nd, season-best 21:53), junior Kelly Meyer (96th, 21:56) and freshman Melissa Fairey (98th, season-best 21:58) finished with in five seconds of each other, and junior Allison Brackin completed Tech’s top five with a 105th finish and a personal-best time of 22:04.
